Comedy Club Etiquette

Can I Heckle?

No! You might think heckling is part of stand up comedy, but not at the Frog and Bucket. Comics will generally interact with the customers and that’s fine, but interrupting an act and throwing insults is not cool. If we find a party is disrupting the show for everyone we will ask them to leave.

What’s the dress code?

We don’t have a dress code at the Frog and Bucket. Jeans are fine. The only thing we don’t allow is fancy dress and anything that might block the sight for other customers, so sorry no top hats!

Can I take photos?

You can’t take photos while the acts are on stage but we’re happy for you to take photos during the break. You can even tweet them to us @frogandbucket ! On weekends we have a professional photographer, the photos get uploaded to our facebook page.

What are the house rules?

During the show please switch off or keep your phone on silent, if your phone rings during the show the comic will answer it for you and you may suffer extreme embarrassment. Please keep chat to an absolute minimum while the acts are on stage, we have a couple of intervals throughout the night so do your chatting then. Anyone deemed to be disturbing the show for other people will be asked to leave without refund and anyone deemed to be too intoxicated on arrival will be refused entry.

Can I use electronic cigarettes?

You are allowed to use electronic cigarettes inside the venue. It is still illegal to smoke inside the venue however, you can go outside for a smoke during the intervals.

Do you have disabled access and facilities?

We have disabled access into the venue and access to the disabled toilets via ramps, and you will be at a table with a good view of the stage. Prior notice helps us seat you at a table suitable for access.  There is parking on Oldham Street outside the venue after 6pm.

Is there a cash machine in the venue?

No, however there’s a cash machine just a block away on Oldham St.

How do I perform on stage?

Most people will start at our weekly new act competition called Beat the Frog, for more information see this page:

Beat the Frog

Beat the Frog is the best open mic comedy night in the north west and has been home to many great comics you see on TV today.

The format is simple. Up to 10 acts take to the stage and get a maximum of 5 minutes, the audience are given three jumbo 'frog' cards. If all three go up, you're off! Make it to the 5 minute mark and you'll be brought back up at the end of the show for a final clap-off. The winner gets to come back as one of our special supporting acts to do an 8 minute spot at the start of the show with no cards.

Sign up for Beat The Frog here.

john_bishop“I got into comedy completely by accident. When I went along to the Frog and Bucket for an open mic show, I only meant to watch… I’d never been on a stage before and I was shocked by how bright the lights were. I couldn’t see anyone. And I only had one joke… At least four of them chuckled. That first laugh, it’s like losing your virginity – it’s not perfect and you know you’ll get better but you’re completely bitten by the bug.” – John Bishop, 2000
